4 Reasons Fall Is The Best Time of Year For Atlanta Family Photos

Atlanta really can be the perfect city for family pictures. Not only do we have a historic downtown filled with rich architecture, but we also have huge parks and nearby farms for nature-filled backdrops. The only issue? This town is known for its hot and humid temps that might make your photos a little sweatier than you intended. As an Atlanta family photographer, I spend a lot of my time helping people plan their sessions. If you want to find out more about scheduling your pics, I’m here to make my case for why fall is the best time of year for Atlanta family photos!

Learn Why Fall Is The Best Time of Year For Atlanta Family Photos

Gorgeous Colors

Okay, first things first, the colors throughout fall are truly divine in Atlanta for family photos! Once the leaves start to turn, you can take full advantage of all of the bold colors! Not only will they shine as a backdrop, but the color schemes can be fun to work into your outfits. From rust-colored dresses to rich jewel tones, you will have so many great options. If you do want to show off the leaves, I would suggest scheduling your session around early November. The trees in this town are late bloomers thanks to our long summers, but they should start to turn right around late October.

Comfortable Temperatures

Speaking of our long summers, most people try to avoid the hot temps for their family pictures. As a photographer, I get this entirely! Autumn gives you a comfortable reprieve, offering temperatures that are tolerable without being too chilly. Essentially, you can grab a sweater and not have to worry about overheating. Comfortable temperatures can also be especially nice when you are dealing with a grumpy child who may or may not want to be there.

Cozy Feel

Seriously, is there any vibe better than the one throughout the fall? People are emerging from their homes, taking advantage of the gorgeous weather. Downtown shines with fall decor while all the farms around the area are setting up their best attractions. I love capturing this time of year through photos. The cozy feeling you get walking around translates beautifully through the camera. It also tends to be great for nostalgia, capturing a specific point in time you can always look back on. This can be a great season for everything from Christmas card pictures to senior portraits.

Soft Lighting

Lastly, the lighting during this season is unparalleled! Because the longer days are gone, the sun’s light isn’t nearly as harsh. It can also be easier to schedule golden hour pics because the sun goes down so much earlier. You won’t have to worry about keeping little ones out too late for your session. Instead, you can take your pics, go out for a family dinner, and be home just in time for baths and a bedtime story.
