When Should You Plan Your Family Photos In Atlanta
Spring
If you want to know a secret, spring in Atlanta is one of my favorite times for family photos! We haven’t hit that really brutal summer heat yet, so you don’t have to worry about sweating throughout your entire session. This is also the season when the world comes to life! The flowers are blooming, the trees are green and vibrant, and everything feels so cheerful. Additionally, the lighting is unparalleled. If you want to really chase that golden hour sun, you don’t have to keep your child out too late to do so. It’s ideal for sticking with a bedtime schedule!
Summer
Summer gets a bad rep for its heat. True, Atlanta does get hot and muggy around this time, but you can still work around it and get pretty creative in the family photos process! You can stay cool by choosing spots next to streams or lakes. While the sun might set later, the golden hour is the ideal time to celebrate the cooling temperatures while getting ethereal lighting. It also tends to be easier to schedule sessions during this season since school is out.
Fall
Fall is another favorite Atlanta season for family photos. We’re breaking out of that summer heat and getting into those bearable temperatures. If you are looking for those really rich colors, this is your time to shine! You get the warm autumnal colors out in nature, and you can work in those vivid jewel tones. You also get more flexibility with your clothing. I also love the option of throwing on layers without sweltering or sticking with lighter materials. Just be warned, books fill up fast during this time!
Winter
If you are okay dealing with some colder temps, winter can also be a magical time for your photo session. Yes, the forecast can sometimes get chilly, but there are a lot of perks during this season! The light is softer, and the world feels so cozy! Plus, books aren’t nearly as full. You can typically find a session and a location fairly easily, giving you amazing pictures for those holiday cards!

Studio sessions take the stress out of unpredictable weather. No worrying about rain, wind, extreme heat, pollen, or rescheduling because Mother Nature had other plans. Instead, you’ll enjoy a comfortable, climate-controlled space with beautiful, consistent lighting that lets the focus stay exactly where it belongs—on your family.
They’re also perfect for little ones. Babies and toddlers are happier in a cozy environment where they can move around without battling the elements. Plus, there’s no sweating, shivering, or chasing the sunset before bedtime.
